Easter Vigil
March 30th at 7pm
The Great Vigil, when observed, is the first liturgy of Easter Day. It is celebrated at a convenient time between sunset on Holy Saturday and sunrise on Easter morning. It is appropriate that the service begins in darkness. The liturgy normally consists of four parts:
The Service of the Light, The Service of the Lessons, Holy Baptism, and Holy Eucharist.
This service is the highlight of Holy Week!
Unique things about this service:
-The service begins in darkness, with the lighting of the Paschal candle.
-Six different passages form the Old Testament are presented, recalling God's saving deeds throughout history.
-The Easter Acclamation erupts - we rejoice at Christ's Resurrection; light and beauty flood the darkness, and we make a joyful noise!
